SMALL GROUP SUNDAY MORNINGS – Please consider joining your St. James friends and family this fall at 9:00 a.m. in the Library for a small group discussion of the Bible, current events, books and videos. All are welcome to attend and we encourage guests! We are going to kick things off on September 12 with a six-week study of the C.S. Lewis classic Mere Christianity. Released in 1952, the book is based on a series of radio talks Lewis gave between 1941 and 1944, at the height of WWII. While nearly 70 years old, the book addresses many of the same issues which divide Christians and non-Christians today, asking readers to consider their core beliefs, and presenting a rational case for the Christian faith. A limited number of paperbacks will be available at Church. You can also buy the book for your e-reader. Also – we are monitoring Covid protocols which seem to be changing almost daily. While we are keeping our fingers crossed for an in-person gathering, stay tuned for updates as to whether we will meet in person, outside, via Zoom, or a combination. Contact Steve Grubb at email@example.com with any questions.
GUEST READERS NEEDED FOR THE PRESCHOOL – With the beginning of the new school year, it is time to start thinking about our Preschool Guest Reader program. We will not begin until Jane and the readers are comfortable with all safety issues with respect to COVID, but it is time to be sure we all have the needed PA volunteer clearances and get our group organized. Being a Guest Reader requires one or two fifteen minute reading sessions a month either morning or afternoon. Everyone who has been involved in the program has found it enjoyable! If you have the time and would be interested in joining us as a guest reader, please contact Barb Rowe at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have any questions, be sure to check with Barb Rowe.
MISSION UPDATE FOOD DRIVE – So how are we doing with the Jesus’s commission to take care of the “least of these”. Our Saint James collections goal for the New Hope Ministries food bank is 2000 LBS for the year and we are grateful to have collected 750 LBS as of the end of June. Collections for the New Hope Ministries food bank have slowed down this summer but hopefully you will consider a commitment to add a donated portion to your weekly food shopping to this effort. We will continue to keep the collection box outside of the front doors of the church. Thank you
SOCIAL MEDIA UPDATE – St. James is currently improving our social media usage in order to let everyone know all of the amazing things that happen at and through St. James! If you haven’t yet, please follow us on Facebook and our newly created Instagram! (St.James_Presby) We will be posting about everything that is happening around the church and this should allow you (as a member of St. James) to stay fairly well informed with your faith family! Other communication will still be sent out (emails, bulletins, announcements, etc.) but this will allow you to stay connected in another way without checking your email! Please follow us if you’re able!
Update to Online Giving: 4 options
Please note that 2% of your online/app donation will go to processing fees and not to the church. Therefore, the church would prefer if you are able to have your bank send a check or mail your offering directly to the church.
- Blessed Givers, you may mail or drop off your offering to St. James Presbyterian Church at 1425 Orrs Bridge Rd. Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.
