“UNSELFIE – #SelflessInASelfieWorld” –Was presented on Sunday, March 18 at St. James at 10:15 a.m. With a constant barrage of selfies, Tweets, and Snaps, it’s easy to get caught up in today’s self-absorbed culture. In this musical the kids learned about a new app that allows them to take pictures of themselves, but only post them if the motive is unselfish. Through music and acting our kids shared the importance of being unselfish in today’s selfie world by sharing the transforming love of Christ.
The Music Program
The music program is led by part-time music director, Betty Enck.
Opportunities to participate in Music include an Adult Choir (grades 9 – Adult); Youth Choir (grades 2-5); Children’s Choir (age 4 – grade 2); Handbell Choir (grade 6 – Adult) and a Worship Band (grades 9 – Adult) These groups perform on a regular basis. St. James also features special music by a brass ensemble, various vocal groups, and vocal and instrumental soloists. Typically, the special musical performances occur during the summer months.
St. James musical traditions include a youth musical production which usually occurs in the spring and a Christmas cantata which usually involves all musical groups. There is also a musical recital on Christmas Eve prior to the 11 p.m. service.
Worship service music varies, depending upon the style of the particular service. Typically, Sunday features traditional songs from the Hymnal and organ music accompaniment with contemporary music – piano and the worship band, typically bass, drums, and guitar.
